During the ice storm that struck the mountain on January 15th, Green Mountain Rd was closed for a total of 99 hours and 5 minutes. During that time GMVFD responded to 4 calls for help. 2 of which came as still alarms, IE we were contacted directly by those in need. Huntsville Fire and Rescue did activate their inclement weather plan and manned Station 13. However, in addition to the emergency calls, GMVFD transported 9 individuals up or down the mountain for various reasons as well as provided other assistance and welfare checks as needed. It is times like this that a Volunteer Fire Department shows its unique value, we are residents in the community we serve and have a vested interest in all of our neighbors’ well-being. We would love to meet with everyone and discuss how you can also help the community we all call home. We meet on the second Thursday of the month at 7pm for our monthly medical training and we have our general training on the last Thursday of the month at 7pm. We welcome everyone as there is always something that needs to be done, even if it is not running calls.
